Why Silver Nitrate is A Better Option Than Silver Diamine Fluoride or SDF
Today I want to talk to you about Silver Nitrate. SDF or silver diamine fluoride has been all the rage over the last 10 years. I practice holistically. I do not use fluoride. I do not use SDF in my office. There is something else called Silver Nitrate that has been around for 100’s of years. Much longer than SDF has. It went out of fashion for a little while, but I am happy to see that it is back.
What it does is when we have tiny cavities in between our teeth, or on the surface of teeth, we are able to go in there with silver nitrate. It’s so small, like little particles of colloidal silver, it can travel through the tubules of the teeth and kill any bacteria that has gone through the enamel at the dentin level.
It can’t go too deep, but it can get those small cavities. No matter if they are on the surface of the tooth, or in between the teeth. This gives us the option of instead of having a filing, we can use silver nitrate in-office and put you on a remineralization protocol for home.
